After 38 years in orthopaedic practice — covering sports medicine, joint replacement, fracture care, and arthroscopy — Dr. Louie now focuses on independent medical examinations and expert witness work.
He trained at UCSF and completed an orthopaedic trauma fellowship at San Francisco General Hospital, and continues as Associate Clinical Professor at UCSF. He is a member of the AAOS, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society.
Dr. Louie works with both defense and plaintiff counsel. Reports are grounded in peer-reviewed literature and include apportionment analysis where the case requires it.
Comprehensive orthopaedic IMEs that include full chart review, physical examination, and written opinion report.
Deposition and trial testimony in orthopaedic surgery matters including fracture care, total joint arthroplasty, sports medicine, and occupational musculoskeletal injury. Retained by both plaintiff and defense counsel.
Systematic review of medical records, operative reports, imaging, and diagnostic studies. Literature-supported causation opinions and rebuttal analysis of opposing expert reports.
Evaluation of operative decision-making, technique, and outcomes against the accepted standard of care in orthopaedic surgery. Medical malpractice consultation for plaintiffs and defendants.
Dr. Louie serves as an advisory board member and SMART course instructor for IGOT, a UCSF-affiliated program dedicated to building orthopaedic surgical capacity in low- and middle-income countries. He has led hands-on surgical skills training programs in Nigeria, Tanzania, and San Francisco.
IGOT's mission — sustainable surgical education and capacity building in resource-limited settings — reflects a commitment to orthopaedic excellence that extends beyond the medicolegal and academic spheres.
